The "Chain Locker" is my place to post odds & ends.  In here lies anything of interest picked up along the way.  The occasional photo, political jab, joke, or whatever.  While no fixed rules or format apply here, I have attempted to group some content.

BRIDGE
I served on six ships during my naval career. Each ship's patch is shown below.

Simply Eloquent Ice Spirit
When USS Honolulu surfaced near the North Pole she freed an Ice Spirit. I like looking for human forms in photographs. Here I see a face formed in the fractured ice.
Wood Spirit
This is a picture of a knot in a dinette table we have. The face (or wood spirit) of a young girl jumps out at me.  The two dark dots in the center form the eyes.
LCDR Mush Morton and LT Dick O'Kane Never give up!!
Mentoring at its best!!

"Tenacity, Dick! --
stay with the bastard till he's on the bottom."

LCDR Dudley "Mush" Morton to his XO LT Dick O'Kane who went on to command USS TANG and is considered one of the best wartime submarine COs in history.

Note: The quotation above is unsourced and unofficial; however, it is widely believed to have been spoken by LCDR Morton.

This is photo 80-G-35725 from the holdings of the National Archives and Records Administration. This is the full official caption from the photograph's mount card provided by the U. S. Navy:

"The USS Wahoo (SS-283) at Pearl Harbor after a patrol during which she sank a Japanese destroyer and an entire convoy of four ships. She sank the convoy during a fourteen hour running battle, using both guns and torpedoes. She narrowly escaped destruction by a Japanese destroyer.
